As the Coronavirus pandemic rapidly evolved into a public health crisis of global proportions, doctors and scientists embarked upon a real-time journey to uncover how the virus mercilessly attacks various parts of the body and what to do about it. While medical experts have been troubled by the respiratory virus’ tendency to wreak havoc on the lungs, perhaps more puzzling has been its relationship with the heart.
Likewise, at a very young age, a thirteen year old Pushpa B.K from Rolpa, Nepal had suffered from Rheumatic Heart Disease. For 2 years, she had been struggling to overcome chest pain, fatigue and had difficulties in digestion leading to vomiting and breathlessness. After her worsened recurring conditions, she was taken to Butwal hospital and was referred to Shahid Gangalal National Hospital, Kathmandu for her Valve replacement surgery. The hospital offered her free heart surgery witnessing their poor family background and unstable financial conditions. Despite weeks on ventilator, her heart surgery was successful and she was ready to be discharged. Unfortunately, during her discharge period, this teenager had been infected with Covid-19 after her post operation phase. As her oxygen levels were too low, this came as a challenge for her to battle the Covid symptoms.
Pushpa’s recovery was not usual, it was a roller coaster ride, a ride of wellness and then going down back to a body having unpredictable symptoms of the virus proving its existence. Nonetheless, she was grateful that she could escape the trauma and got fully recovered. Also, she thanked Jayanti Memorial Trust for providing required medications and thanked the doctors and nurses who motivated her during her recovery journey.
