Kamala Khadka is a middle-aged woman from a village in Lumbini district. She has a family of five including herself, her husband, her mother-in-law, a son and a daughter. Her husband is the only meal ticket of her family however; even he doesn’t have a steady income for he is a daily-wageworker. With an income of only about Rs.9000/- per month, it is very strenuous for them to manage a proper meal twice a day and because of this they have their children studying under government dispensation.
Kamala has been an asthma patient for almost all her life, making her unable to engage in laborious jobs to support her husband. Around 8 years ago, during her treatment for asthma, she was diagnosed as a cardiac patient as well. Butwal Medical Centre then referred her case to Sahid Gangalal National Heart Centre in Kathmandu. Being unable to cope with the expenses of her treatment, she was brought in contact with the social service facility where she learned about the services of JMT. Her course of treatment has completed with PTMC and she is now under mediactions. She plans to support her family and her husband in any way she can after she is fully well.
