Nirmala Tripathee, 42 years of age is a resident of Kalika Ward -28, Pokhara who had a long-standing history of heart disease is currently undergoing Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) treatment at Western Regional Hospital, Pokhara. VSD, which is a defect precisely, a hole in the heart, is a common heart defect that's present at birth, having symptoms of breathlessness and rapid or irregular heartbeat. She was sent to different hospitals in hopes of getting a proper treatment but due to her financial problem, she was not able to afford proper treatment for her case.
After recurrent sickness, she was referred to WRH for further treatment and observation. After analysing her cardiac symptoms, Dr Ashish Tripathee, cardiologist of WRH, performed a few tests and she was recommended to seek help from Jayanti Memorial Trust (JMT) witnessing her poor family background. Based on the diagnostic findings and severely abnormal heart conditions, she was again admitted in the ICU and her condition was monitored closely.
After the hospitalization phase, she was supported with regular medications and oxygen cylinder, which brought improvements in her health. On asking about her health status, she replied: “ Coming from a poor family, I was not able to collect enough money for my treatment, I am thankful that I have been given proper treatment and medications here”.
Fortunately, Nirmala was able to recuperate from a stressful recovery and she reported an increase in her motivation, ability to change developing a post-discharge plan that incorporates self-care behaviours and nutrition management.
