Pokhara CME and Heart Camp

 Jayanti Memorial Trust organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) at Hotel Pokhara Grande with support from Harelo Academy on the 30th of November 2012. The CME was chaired by prominent cardiac surgeon and Director of Tribhuwan University Teaching Hospital Dr. Bhagawan Koirala. The speakers in the CME were Dr. Robert Quaife, Mr. George Justison, Dr. David Campbell, Dr. David Fullerton and Dr. Frederick Grover. The topics of the CME were on various methods and applicable technologies used in cardio-vascular surgery. Final year students of Manipal University took keen interest in the CME, while cardiologists from Gandaki Hospital were also present at the function, which ended with a dinner reception. The program received a very successful response with the attendance of 220 participants.

A free Heart Camp was organized at Western Zonal Gandaki Hospital in Pokhara under the technical guidance of Dr. Madhav Babu Tiwari on the 1st of December 2012. The Trust organized a free heart camp with support from Harelo Academy and technical support from Gandaki Hospital. The screening of patients for this free heart camp began two weeks before the schedule camp and there were 493 patients screened with prospective heart problems. These patients were checked by Dr. Frederick Grover and his team from the University of Colorado and Dr. Bhagawan Koirala and his team. Out of the total number of patients, the Trust has taken the responsibility to bring 25 patients to Kathmandu for treatment. Pharmaceuticals such as Lomus, Spectra and Quest distributed 15days worth of cardiac drugs to the screened patients.

The Trust has conducted several heart camps in Pokhara over the years, but this is the first time it has joined hands with Gandaki Hospital for technical support and will continue to do so
