Free Heart Camp in Bardia

March 14th 2015

Jayanti Memorial Trust with technical support from the Shahid Gangalal National Heart Center and in collaboration with RWDUC Organization bid farewell to the Nepali Year 2071 with a Free Heart Camp. Our local partners for this camp were Nepalgunj Medical College and SAATHI Organization.

The registration began from 6:00am to 11:00am but considering the number of patients that was pouring in we had to extend the time to 1:00pm. People were standing in line under the sun for hours only to get themselves checked. Not only were there parents but also a large number of children waiting for their turn. This only shows that we have been successful in raising awareness and also been able to kindle consciousness among the people from low income groups.

The 2071 patients that attended this camp were availed to facilities like ECHO, ECG, BP and free of cost consultations from cardiac experts. From among these patients 73 of them were referred to Nepalgunj Medical College where 50% of discount on cost will be provided to them. 23 patients were referred to Shahid Gangalal National Heart Center of which 4 of them were found to be in very critical condition. Although it was a cardiac camp we witnessed people from different walks of life suffering from various ailments. Our aim was to touch hearts which indeed we did through many ways.

There was one peculiar case where a group of girls would get fits at the same time. Upon counseling them we came to know that one girl was being abused by her father. Her friends could feel the torture she was going through, thus the fits. SAATHI Organization has taken up her Medical and Legal responsibilities and she now is going through a Psychiatric Treatment. We were able to save one life as she was on the verge of a suicide. One child has been referred to Kantibal Hospital, Kathmandu who needed immediate pediatric attention. Lomus Pharmaceuticals has always lent a helping hand to those in need and this time too they did not fail to do so. They extended their support by distributing cardiac and diabetic drugs for free of cost.

Vega Pharmaceuticals a recently established Nepali pharmaceutical company had taken keen interest in supporting the Trust’s Free Heart Camp by agreeing to become our travel sponsor. Free cardiac drugs were distributed to all the patients that required medication. Watching both these pharmaceutical companies helping each other with the drug distribution was a pleasing sight.

The Trust sincerely thanks Mrs. Pratibha Rana under whose initiative, the Trust and Gangalal joined hands in serving the less fortunate people of Bardiya. This camp would not have been a great success without the participation of the doctors and nurses from Gangalal, interns and a Psychician from Nepalgunj Medical College and our partners RWDUC and SAATHI Organization.

These camps are very hectic but at the end of the day to see the smiles and a sense of satisfaction on the faces of so many is a true bliss. We would definitely conduct such camps on a regular basis not only for their heartwarming smiles but for our contentment too.
