Cardiac Camp in Mallaj

Mallaj is rural village - flat land on foothill of small hills surrounding it. It's is 89 kms from Pokhara at altitude of 1250 meters - first 79 km is regular black top road but last 9 kms is mountainous uphill dirt road. The local partner for this outreach clinic was The Heritage at Mallaj (hotel) which is a 145 year old historical monument.

The camp was conducted within the premises of the Mallaj Health Post and supported by the various local government bodies. The place has witnessed clinics in the past but this was the first outreach clinic conducted in a large scale with experts from both University of Colorado and Nepal. Implying that this was their first encounter/consultation with a doctor/cardiologist/surgeons at free of cost. The findings of the clinic conducted on the 1st of December were:

  1. Total number of patients screened for any cardiac ailments was 707
  2. 94 patients were identified with a cardiac problem
  3. 75 patients were found to be hypertensive
  4. Amongst 69 patients that belonged to the age bracket (0-24) one was diagnosed with MVR+TV Repair, one each for S/P ASD Closure + Pulmonary Valvatomy and S/P BVP and two for S/P VSD Closure.
  5. 2 patients were referred for their tertiary treatment in Kathmandu. The 15year old, Bimal Ruchal, who was diagnosed with MVR + TV Repair, has visited Shahid Gangalal National Hospital on the 13th of December 2017 for his treatment.

Overall the camp was recieved very well and much appreciated by the locals and government officials of Mallaj.
