Cardiac Camp at Gorkha

November 18th 2019

Gorkha is one of the seventy-seven districts of Nepal and also one of the most earthquake-affected places in Nepal. The earthquake of 25th April enormously affected human, socio-economic, and other multiple sectors at Gorkha resulting in huge damage and property loss.

A district hospital is in Gorkha ie the municipal hospital in Amppipal supported by a German NGO. The small health centers in many village development committees (VDCs) are without Auxiliary Health Workers (AHWs),  and Community Health Workers (CHWs). So, people seeking emergency health assistance have to travel a long distance to the district headquarters or Kathmandu or end up dying because of a lack of treatment. Thus, in order to take cardiac care closer to the doorsteps of the people who are unable to avail of health care services due to financial, health, or travel constraints, a free cardiac camp was conducted at Gorkha Hospital, Gorkha with the team of University of Colorado, Jayanti Memorial Trust and Rotary Club of Gorkha.

847 people from different villages were screened during the camp where ECG was performed on 342 patients and Echo screening was performed on 205 patients. Likewise, 18 patients were referred to Kathmandu for further treatment. The doctors and nurses provided the people with required consultation and free medicines as per their necessities during the camp. Also, free medicines were provided to 475 patients in the camp. The prescribed cardiac and non-cardiac medicines were distributed by Lomus Pharmaceuticals during the camp.
