 On the 22nd of October, 2013, Jayanti Memorial Trust in collaboration with Shahid Gangalal National Heart Center (SGNHC) and Manamohan Cardio Vascular Thoracic and Transplant Centre (MCVTC) organized a “Pediatric Cardiac Care Conference for Nurses” conducted by the medical Team from the Mayo Clinic from United States of America at Hotel Annapurna, Durbar Marg, Kathmandu. The skill based nurse conference was attended by 41 nurses from SGNHC and MCVTC with cardiac care amongst children discussed.

The various topics presented were, “Pediatric Respiratory& Shock Emergencies and Interventions”, “Nutritional Support for Children with Congenital Heart Disease”, “Pediatric Rhythm Assessment” with practical hands on activities on mannequins, related to the topics presented. Dr. Minette Son and Ms. Cathy Woodward, RN, PhD, from San Antonio Hospital, Texas, members of the Mayo Clinic Team visiting Nepal, conducted the nursing conference. Quoting Ms. Cathy Woodward “ When I take similar classes in USA, the participants usually walk out of the classes in between, while some are busy texting from their mobiles, but you were all so attentive, receptive and interactive, that it made me want to teach you more”. The four and a half hour long conference could not fulfill the craving of our local nurses, who all wanted to learn more. However what they learned, the trust sincerely hopes they will put into practice in their respective hospitals and share the knowledge received with many more. Jayanti Memorial Trust hopes and will try to embrace all nursing staffs to help upgrade their skills and knowledge through similar conferences in the future.
