Hypertension plays a vital role in acquiring heart disease. It can damage our valves, kidney etc. Most of the people die every year due to uncontrolled hypertension. So it is necessary to create awareness and take measures to reduce high blood pressure. World hypertension day is celebrated since 2005 on the 17^th of May ever year.

The International Society of Hypertension (ISH) with the help of its 85-hypertension society’s situated globally helps in measuring and collecting blood pressure. The ISH this year introduced the May Measurement Month (MMM17) as a global Blood Pressure awareness campaign, incorporating the World Hypertension Day. Globally, it aims to collect the data’s of 25 million people worldwide, to address the huge disease caused by raised BP.

Jayanti Memorial Trust that has been working to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease since its establishment participated in this program to measure and collected the blood pressure of the people.   

Findings:

1. Young adults studying Medicine at IOM led this particular camp. Their energy and positivity created a very electric atmosphere.
2. We were able to collect the data of 307 people. Of which 21 new cases of hypertension was found.
3. We found few of them who had never got their Blood Pressure checked in the past.
4. 4.23% of the people were found with both Diabetes and Hypertension.
5. We were also able to identify a young 18-year-old boy, who was a chain smoker. The boy was then counseled and we will be in touch with the staffs.
6.  We established good relations with AMSA Nepal and the other sponsors, who could be a great support for JMT in future.

Although due to the heavy rainfall, we couldn’t collect the anticipated number of data. We are glad to have been a part of this international campaign and contribute to the data of Nepal.
