Free Cardiac Camp in Pokhara - 2014

December 6th 2014

On December 6th, 2014 the Jayanti Memorial Trust with technical support from Western Regional Hospital in Pokhara and Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Centre (Kathmandu) had organized a free cardiac camp on the premises of Western Regional Hospital at Ramghat Pokhara.

The purpose of this free heart camp was to provide the already identified cardiac patients their follow up on medical consultations that wouldl ease the load for indigent heart patients travelling to and fro to Kathmandu on time and finances. New patients were screened as well, in order to identify those that needed immediate help. Skilled cardiac surgeons from Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Centre (MCVTC) in Kathmandu; under the leadership of Dr. Bhagawan Koirala were Dr. Ravi Baral, Dr. Sanjeev Thapa and Dr. Andrei Jivendra Jha teamed up with Expert Cardiothoracic Surgeons from the University of Colorado which included the President and former President of the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons of America, Dr. David Fullerton and Dr. Frederick Grover respectfully, Dr. David Campbell, Dr. Robert Quaife, Dr. John Mitchell just to name a few, had volunteered to take part in this humane event in conducting the free cardiac camp. Keeping in mind the burden on patients that have been identified as critical heart patients the team from MCVTC had brought along with them one of their clinical administrators who gave those identified indigent patients the date and time of their operation and also explained to them the required documents that are necessary for them. Once the patients arrive in Kathmandu all they have to do is go straight to the hospital (MCVTC). People attending were availed to facilities such as ECG, ECHO PT/INR as per medical advice from the doctors, while BP tests and a free of cost consultation with cardiac experts were given to all. The camp commenced at 8:15am and the last patient screened was at 7:15pm. The total turnout was 600 patients.
